Meet Our Horses

Meet the Herd

Each one of our equine counselors are uniquely equipped to work with children and individual. Through building relationships with their people our counselors help build confidence, self-worth, communication, and other life skills.

Our Horses

Brown

Brown was the first horse at the ranch. He was a gift from a family member to our oldest child Amber.

Over the years he has made a great beginner’s horse for many youth in the program. Due to his increasing age, he has been retired from the program. Brown still enjoys an occasional ride with the volunteers here at Shiloh Ranch and enjoys greeting new people at the fence.

Apache

Apache is the spit fire of the herd. He may be the smallest horse but his attitude is bigger than any other horse we have. We think he is a pinto paint but we are not sure.

He has a great personality and loves to be around people. He usually is one of the first to greet visitors at the fence or in the field. Because of his spit fire attitude he is only used by experienced riders. Maybe one day he will slow down enough to be used as a beginner horse.

Trigger

Trigger is our first miniature horse at the ranch. We got him because there are so many kids that are frightened by horses and with his size he helps those kids relax. He is such a character, he is the smallest horse at the ranch but his personality is huge.

When he is out grazing he loves to play tag. It is a hilarious sight to see. He was used at one time to visit retirement homes where he would walk up and down the halls to visit the residents. While we can’t saddle him he does pull a cart that we take to parades.

Red

Red was donated by a family friend. He is always the first to come up to you while in the field, mainly to see if you may be bringing a treat for him. He loves special treats such as, carrots, apples & occasionally watermelon rinds. If you are just looking for a friendly and laid back horse to pet, Red is your guy!

Alice

Alice is a little sweetheart; she is a sister to Red and for the most part loves attention. She and Red came together to the ranch. Most of the youth who visit just love her coloring & think she is really beautiful. Alice was originally trained to be a barrel racer, but shortly after was deemed to laid back for competitions. Her owners felt she would make a great addition to Shiloh Ranch as a kid’s horse. She has been faithful to that calling.

Jazz

Jazz was given to us in October of 2008. She has a quiet personality & loves to be around everyone. She is very friendly & enjoys being brushed. Jazz loves to ride & responds real well with whoever is riding her at the time. She is the type of horse that will look at you when you’re talking to her, what a great listener! Jazz loves every minute of it.

Brumby

Brumby is a gentle guy. He loves to be around people and enjoys interacting with youth. He has a big personality and loves to be brushed and loved on.

Tater Tot

Tater Tot was donated to the ranch in the spring of 2012. He is considered a dwarf miniature horse. Tater Tot stands about 24 inches tall & is very much a hit with the youth visiting the ranch. Considering he was only a year old when we got him, he is very friendly & well mannered. He shares the paddock with Trigger & they have become great friends!

Leggs

Leggs came to us from Rainbow Meadows Horse Rescue out of Sedan, Ks. We adopted him in the summer of 2012. Shortly after his arrival here we celebrated his 5th Birthday! Even though he is a young man, he has turned into a great kid’s horse with just a few months of training. He has a wonderful personality & always is one of the first ones to greet visitors at the fence. Leggs has made a great addition to our herd.

Smarty

Smarty is one of the most curious horses we have here. He has the most outgoing personality. In fact, if at all possibly if he had it his way, he would be the ONLY horse to be used each session. He is the first one at the gate and the last one that you will find standing at the gate. He wants to be the center of attention. He is a great guy!

Aummi

Aummi has been quite the center of attention since she came to the ranch the spring of 2017. She is currently the youngest horse here at the ranch. Aummi came with little training and needed her trust to be  built between her and humans. She has touched so many people’s hearts on her journey since she has been here. She currently is not ready to be used in the program for sessions but is in training now that her trust has been re-established. We have hope that she will be used very soon for sessions.

Buddy

Buddy is a mini donkey with a gentle and quiet spirit. He may be quiet, but he makes such an impression on all that visit the ranch. His big ears are always seen as people come down the drive. He is usually the first one to be seen and heard as he gives a big bray when he sees everyone. Buddy  loves treats and to be pet.

Takota

Takoa came to us from Rainbow Meadows Equine Rescue. He is one of the most trusting horses and loves attention. He is one of the younger ones of the herd and loves to oversee the other horses. He loves to be brushed and enjoys the water on hot days.

Cay

Cay is such a quizzical & fun loving horse. If there is something to get in to, Cay will be right in the middle of it. She is easy going & has made a great kids horse. We were blessed to have her donated by a family friend.

IN MEMORY OF

Chance

Chance crossed the Rainbow bridge Summer of 2014. He was loved by many and will never be forgotten. He was such a great horse and touched many hearts.

Scout

Scout crossed the Rainbow Bridge December 12, 2013 due to illness. He was a quiet boy & will be greatly missed around the ranch by all. Rest in Peace, friend!

Sponsor a Horse

The horses at Shiloh Ranch play a very important role. They help us break down the barriers that so many of the youth that visit the ranch harbor. The horses have a very special way of developing a trust and hope that many of the kids do not have. The horses are as important as the volunteers at Shiloh Ranch. Shiloh Ranch offers our horses a safe and enjoyable life with a great purpose.

Please consider sponsoring one of our equine friends. By choosing to sponsor a horse you will help ensure we are able to keep our program cost free to the youth and families who come here for a time of rest, healing and hope. You will help ensure that they will get the quality time needed, both physically and mentally, to ensure that they can be used in the equine ministry. You will help provide the daily grain and hay needed as well as the farrier service, tack and equipment. You will also ensure that the equine are kept healthy with regular health checks and vaccines.
